Welcome Back! Members' Gather-In Description: An informal Zoom gathering with talk of garden successes and surprises. Business meeting features a look at the year ahead and a review of who's doing what. When: Monday, September 14, 2020; 7:00-9:00 PM OCTOBER OUTREACH: Pumpkins on the Common - On Hold Description: The Club joins First Religious Society and Carlisle Cheer for a celebration the of harvest season. When: Saturday/Sunday October 3-4, 2020; 10:00 AM-4:00 PM Member Roundtable Zoom meeting to update events, discuss possible new formats. Description: Finalize Club holiday plans and other? Also bring your garden issues and questions. When: Tuesday, October 15, 2020; 7:00-9:00 PM NOVEMBER Bookclub Night Description: Because we cannot hold our originally scheduled indoor meeting, the Program committee has selected four candidate books and will be asking us to choose one for discussion at this meeting. There will also be time to discuss members' questions or ideas before our regular business meeting. When: Tuesday, November 10, 2020, 7:00-9:00 PM OUTREACH: Baubles and Bows Workshop Description: Cancelled DECEMBER OUTREACH: Wreath-Making - TBD Description: Wreaths and swags are being created for public buildings. Annual Holiday Party - CANCELLED Description: Traditional holiday potluck dinner for Club members and their spouses/partners. When: Sunday, December 6, 2020; 6:00 PM JANUARY Blueberries and Raspberries Speaker: Barb McIntosh, Master Gardener, Club member Description: Join us for brunch and an exploration of some great berries. OUTREACH: Annual Seed Swap & Share: Plan Your 2021 Garden, Help the Planet - Tentatively to be combined with Earth Day Celebration on April 25.
Description: Annual community-wide, free seed swap with educational features, in collaboration with the Environmental Action Committee of FRS and other town organizations. When: ??? Where: March 1x, 2021, 4-6 PM?? Volunteers: ??? APRIL Splendor in the Grasses Speaker: Andi Ross Description: The use of ornamental grasses in New England gardens has skyrocketed in the past decade. Grasses offer the busy gardener stunning design elements with easy maintenance. There are options for every garden--whether sunny, part sunny or shady. With heights from several inches to several feet, these handsome species range in color from wine red to gold to silvery blue. The beauty of ornamental grasses is both their graceful foliage and their feathery, long-lasting plumes. The talk will describe what’s available, what’s new and best maintenance techniques. When: Tuesday, April 13, 2021, 10:00 AM-Noon OUTREACH: Earth Day Celebration When: Tentatively Sunday, April 25, 2021, Noon to 4 PM Where: Tentatively Carlisle Common and other venues TBD MAY Sequence of Bloom Speaker: Laura Bibler Description: Knowing when plants are at their best enables the gardener to create majestic gardens of delight. This presentation follows perennials, shrubs and ornamental trees as they progress through the seasons and offers a photographic calendar of bloom times and associated design considerations. A handout of blooming sequence and pleasing combinations is provided. When: Monday, May 3, 2021, 10 AM-Noon JUNE Annual Meeting, Scholarship Award, Member Social Description: Annual business meeting, Debbie Wright college scholarship award, member social with optional appetizer potluck. When: Tuesday, June 7, 2021, 7:00 – 9:00 PM FUNDRAISER: Country Gardens Tour Description: Beloved odd-year tour of 6 outstanding Carlisle gardens. When: Friday/Saturday, June 11-12, 2021; 10:00 AM TO 4:00 PM Where: Starts on Town Common, opposite 27 School Street. Tour may include virtual option; please check back later. FUNDRAISER: Plant Sale for the Earth Description: Carefully curated and donated plants you can use to enhance your local landscape; ideas for advertising your commitment to native habitats -- perhaps in cooperation with your greater neighborhood!
