DEBBIE WRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD RECIPIENT
2025 Ranai Shah
2025 Ranai Shah
For over 59 years, the Carlisle Garden Club has awarded the Debbie Wright Scholarship to support the college education of a Carlisle resident. This year’s recipient is Ranai Shah, a graduate of Concord-Carlisle High School. This fall, Ranai will attend the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business, with a possible minor in a social science- related field to complement his education.
Growing up in Carlisle, Ranai developed a deep appreciation for the natural world through hiking, running its trails, and biking. These experiences instilled in him a commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, particularly in the realm of sustainability. Looking ahead, Ranai envisions working with companies—potentially in a collaborative consulting role—to establish a more equitable balance between profit, environmental responsibility, and social impact. In his application, he wrote, “Though many businesses are cognizant of their social and environmental impact, they continue to prioritize shareholder returns at the expense of sustainability. I hope to lead businesses to balance their social and financial priorities.” He believes business leaders should be empowered to focus on long-term impact rather than short-term financial gain to drive meaningful change. Environmental and social responsibility should be embedded in core business strategies, which could then be applied to addressing environmental challenges.
During high school, Ranai was actively involved in several extracurricular activities. He volunteered as a data analyst for the Russian School of Mathematics and served as chair of the leadership team for the Infinity Squad Math Tutoring Program for Massachusetts youth. He also led the trombone section in the Concord-Carlisle High School Band. During the summers, he worked as a scooper at Kimball’s.
Ranai’s references are strong. He comes highly recommended, described as a unifier and an exceptional leader who can inspire and motivate those around him. He has a strong work ethic and positive attitude. It was predicted that he has the insight and ability to effectively balance businesses priorities in the future.

Ranai sent the following to the club after receiving the 2025 Scholarship
Dear Carlisle Garden Club,
In all my interactions with members of the club from Center Park volunteering, helping with Earth Day activities, and attending other Carlisle events, I've been met with nothing but kindness and a welcoming environment. I know that I and everyone else in Carlisle are so appreciative of what you all do for the local community and the environment.
I wanted to send another message to say thank you for selecting me for the Garden Club Scholarship. I’m sorry I could not come in person to accept the scholarship, but I truly appreciate your support and encouragement.
Best,
Ranai Shah
