History
The Carlisle, Massachusetts Garden Club was founded in 1959 and has been a member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts since 1986. Through symposiums, field trips, roundtable forums and civic projects, the Carlisle Garden Club enhances our knowledge of gardening and landscape design. We discuss the unique challenges of gardening in Carlisle and share our success stories. We work to beautify Carlisle's public spaces and encourage responsible stewardship.
Our activities include:
MEETINGS
Meetings are held once a month from September through June. A typical meeting consists of a presentation or workshop followed by refreshments and a short business meeting. In addition, we hold roundtable forums where members meet and exchange information and tips on local suppliers and plants that will grow and thrive in Carlisle. While most meetings are limited to Garden Club members and guests, several programs each year are open to the general public. Click here to see the current year's programs.
TOWN BEAUTIFICATION
Throughout the year we landscape, maintain and provide seasonal decorations for Carlisle's public areas, including the Town Common and rotary, Carlisle School,Town Hall, police and fire stations, and Gleason Public Library. We frequently work with town organizations including the Council on Aging, the Historical Society, Girl Scouts, Cultural Council, Gleason Library, Farmer's Market, and Carlisle Artisans.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Debbie Wright Scholarship is awarded each year to help fund college education for Carlisle students.
LIBRARY
The Gleason Library provide passes to local attractions that allow residents to attend free of charge, and occasionally donate books and videos on all aspects of horticulture to the library.
NEW DIRECTIONS IN COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Additional outreach projects include the annual Pumpkins on the Common, Community Seed Swap and Sale, and landscape efforts at Diment Park. Earth Day commemoration originally organized for the 50th anniversary of this conservation movement.
COUNTRY GARDEN TOUR AND PLANT SALE
Our popular Country Garden Tour takes place in June of odd-numbered years and showcases a range of Carlisle gardens both formal and eclectic. The next tour, will take place in June 2023. We host a sale of plants from member gardens and other Carlisle gardeners, along with selected herbs and annuals, in mid-May. The tour and plant sales raise funds for civic projects and college scholarships for Carlisle residents.
